I am a Cal student majoring in English literature, although my interests span into psychology, philosophy, history, classics, etc. Thanks to AP units and summer classes, I’m graduating a year early and spending my next and last year studying abroad in the U.K. I spend my free time a little differently than the average Berkeley student – that means no partying, drinking, drugs, etc. When I’m not playing with my cats or N64, lately I’ve been into serial killer movies and making progress on watching every single Star Trek episode. I enjoy t.v. more than I should , but I’ve been trying to cut down in favor of reading and writing, which I can once again enjoy now that I’m out of class. I’ve been venturing out to more concerts lately, though I consider myself regrettably uneducated in the field of music. While I love my downtime, I can’t enjoy being lazy unless I have something with which to compare it. Right now I’m an administrative assistant, but I’ve worked at a daycare center, ice cream shop, and many other places since before I was a teenager. At the moment my plan is to pursue a career teaching high school English after graduation, although I acknowledge that these things change and I’m excited for those changes to happen . I suppose it’s customary to include a physical description of myself, though I’m of the opinion that appearance is much less important than personality. But don’t take that as an ugly girl’s response; I might not be a supermodel, but I’m not unattractive, either. I’m 5’10”, average weight, white, have a facial structure strong enough to carry my excessively short hair , and from all the compliments I apparently have nice legs. I go to the gym occasionally and enjoy hiking, though I don’t make enough time for it like I should. I'm into outdoor sports like fishing, skiing, and horseback riding when I get the chance; I've been skydiving and love adrenaline rushes. I should probably also mention that a few inconspicuous tattoos and plan on getting more. Now that I’ve covered all of the concrete facts expected in this kind of thing, if you don’t mind I’d rather share a little of myself now. I’m fascinated with the ideas of subjectivity, interpretation, and possibility. I spend quite a bit of time considering where I am, where I want to be, how things can change, etc. That isn’t to say, of course, that I’m unhappy with my situation; merely that I’m invested in personal growth. I think that I’ve been through my fair share, though it’s always hard to tell when it gets to relative terms like that. I try to be very aware of myself and I tend to be very curious about what’s going on in other people’s heads, despite social conventions that warn against such interests. At the same time, I know I have a lot to learn and tend to relish my immaturity; being able to laugh at oneself is a luxury too few pass up on. I would classify myself as an extremely honest and introspective individual and I'm quite happy not knowing who I am or where I'm headed; there's a certain freedom in admitting the absence of truth. I’ll forgo the traditional description of what I’m looking for because I understand the power of suggestion. I want you to present you as you, not the you you think I want to see.
